Living in Southwest Washington means having daily access to some of the most breathtaking outdoor recreation in the Pacific Northwest. As a local real estate broker serving Woodland and the surrounding SW Washington communities, I don’t just sell homes here. I live the lifestyle.
Hiking is one of my favorite ways to unplug, reconnect with my family, and appreciate just how special this area is. In July 2025, I had the incredible experience of completing the Mt. St. Helens hike with my husband and our two sons, who were 9 and 13 at the time. That moment alone solidified why living in Southwest Washington is so important to me. These are the memories this region makes possible. If you’re considering relocating to Southwest Washington, these five hikes perfectly showcase what life here can look like. I can’t wait to share them with you.
1. Mt. St. Helens Monitor Ridge
This hike is iconic, challenging, and unforgettable. Reaching the summit of Mt. St. Helens is a physical accomplishment and an emotional one. The ever-changing terrain, sweeping views, and sense of accomplishment at the top make it one of the most rewarding hikes in Washington State.
Completing this hike with my family was a reminder of how rare it is to live somewhere that offers world-class adventure literally in our backyard.
2. Ape Cave Lava Tubes
Located just outside Woodland, Ape Cave is one of the longest lava tubes in North America and a favorite for families. This hike offers a completely unique experience, moving through ancient volcanic formations beneath the forest floor.
It’s accessible, educational, and one of those places that reminds you how geologically special Southwest Washington truly is.
3. Silver Star Mountain
Silver Star is known for its panoramic views of Mt. Hood, Mt. Adams, Mt. Rainier, and Mt. St. Helens on clear days. Wildflowers blanket the mountain in summer, making this hike both challenging and stunning.
For many people relocating to SW Washington, Silver Star quickly becomes a go-to weekend escape.
4. Cape Horn Lookout
This Columbia River Gorge hike offers dramatic cliffside views and lush forest trails. Cape Horn is perfect if you want big views without an all-day commitment.
It’s also a favorite for locals living in Woodland and nearby cities because of how easily accessible it is while still feeling like a true adventure.
5. Lewis River Falls Trail
If you love waterfalls, this trail is hard to beat. Multiple waterfalls, moss-covered trees, and well-maintained paths make Lewis River Falls a must-see in Southwest Washington.
It’s a perfect example of the peaceful, nature-forward lifestyle so many buyers are searching for when moving to this area.
Why This Lifestyle Matters
When people ask me why I’m so passionate about real estate in Woodland and Southwest Washington, this is why. It’s about more than homes and property lines. It’s about raising a family in a place where outdoor adventure, natural beauty, and quality of life are woven into everyday living.
Whether you’re looking to buy a home near hiking trails, sell your property, or relocate to Woodland or surrounding SW Washington communities, I believe where you live should support the life you want to live.
And for me, that life includes mountains, trails, family memories, and a deep appreciation for the place I’m proud to call home.
